How often are the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars?

The Oscars are held annually (every year)

Given by the AMPAS (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), these awards for the film industry are some of the most prestigious, revered and recognised accomplishments in the entertainment industry globally.

The first Oscar was awarded in 1929. It was televised for the first time ever in 1953.

Each category winner is awarded a gold statue which is commonly called the Oscar. This is the reason the Academy Awards are commonly and colloquially known as the Oscars.

When are the Oscars held in the calendar year?

These days, the annual Oscars are usually held in late February or early March. Prior to this, they used to be held a little later in the year, in April or May.

Keep in mind though, the exact time of the ceremony has often varied.

For example, recently in 2021, the award show was postponed to April (from February) in the setting of the coronavirus pandemic and the impact it had on the film industry.

It goes without saying that some of the most popular and accomplished film industry leaders have participated in and been awarded during these ceremonies. Do you normally tune in to the awards ceremony?
