How often does the Federal Reserve meet?
However, it can meet more often if there is a need. An example of this was during the coronavirus pandemic.
These meetings are frequently referred to as the The Federal Reserve or simply The Fed meetings.
Legally, the FOMC has to meet at least 4 times in a calendar year in Washington.
The meetings are important and closely followed by analysts, journalists, investors and the population in general.
The FOMC members analyse current financial data and the economy in order to make appropriate monetary policy in line with its goals of sustainable growth of the economy.
There are generally 12 members in the committee made up of the Board of Governors, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and 4 of the other regional Federal Reserve Bank presidents.
