How often is Eurovision?
The Eurovision Song Contest is held every year. It is also sometimes simply known as Eurovision and ESC. Eurovision is a song competition featuring representatives from participating countries (mostly European, though there have been others represented, including Australia more recently) that occurs annually. The event is traditionally hosted by the country of the previous year’s winner. It has grown in popularity over the years with a large following throughout the world with people tuning in to the TV broadcast. Competing countries (taking into consideration both judges and viewers input) vote on the eventual winner during the televised event. It used to be held in one night but more recently, the event has turned into a multi day competition. For example, the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Turin Italy from Tuesday, May 10th until Saturday, 14th of May. It has been on every year since 1956. This means that in addition to one of the most popular music competitions in the world, it is also one of the longest running annual song competitions as well as one of the world’s longest running TV shows. The only exception to the yearly show was in 2020. In 2020, the event was cancelled due to safety concerns in the setting of the COVID pandemic. Some examples of popular previous winners and competitors include ABBA, Celine Dion and Julio Iglesias among many others. |
